2016 Dodge Challenger

The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro and the 2016 Dodge Challenger are both classic muscle cars that offer big performance at a not so big price. Either one will let you live out your childhood drag strip fantasies, but when it comes to driving enjoyment, a actual performance, and comfort and convenience, you’ll find a clear winner when you take a closer look.

Power and Performance

When it comes to power and performance, both of these cars offer the kind of high octane thrills you want—but there are some major differences between the two when you actually look at the figures.

  • Dodge Challenger Performance: The Challenger starts with a 3.6L V6 that makes 305 hp and 268 lb-ft of torque. It will go from 0 to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds. For upgrades you have three different V8 options: a 375 hp 5.7L V8, a 6.4L 485 hp V8, and a 707 hp 6.2L V8. The quickest model—the 5.7L V8—will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds, while the 6.2L V8 will do it in 4.1 seconds.
  • Chevy Camaro Performance: The Camaro can be had with a brand new 2.0L four-cylinder, which provides 275 hp and 296 lb-ft of torque. This model will go from 0 to 60 mph in only 5.4 seconds. An available 335 hp V6 will push the Camaro to 60 mph in only 5.1 seconds, and the 455 hp V8 in the Camaro SS will go from 0 to 60 mph in only 4.0 seconds. Finally, a new Camaro ZL1 will offer 640 hp—surely enough to outpace any Challenger.

You can see that while the Challenger does ultimately offer more muscle in the top-rung model, the Challenger simply doesn’t keep up with the Camaro.

Safety and Security

The Camaro also offers some advantages over the Challenger when it comes to security and safety. The Camaro gets automatic emergency service notification, stolen vehicle tracking and assistance, and automatic airbag deployment notification as part of the OnStar telematics system, while the Challenger offers none of those features.
