2016 Suburban vs. 2016 Ford Expedition EL
The 2016 Chevy Suburban and the 2016 Ford Expedition are long time competitors. They’re both full-size, American SUVs that provide tons of truck-based capability, and a spacious, three-row interior, so you can take the whole family, wherever you’re going. Find out how these two big trucks compare below.
Powertrain and Performance
First up, let’s take a look under the hood. You’ll find that the Chevy Suburban uses a powerful 5.3L V8 engine that pumps out 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. This engine cranks out 16 mpg city and 23 mpg on the highway according to EPA estimates. The Ford Expedition uses a 3.5L V6 that generates 365 hp. Unfortunately for the Expedition, you’ll only find an EPA estimate of 15 mpg city/21 mpg highway. While the Expedition doesn’t offer much more power, the Suburban offers considerably more fuel economy.
The Suburban also offers up to 6,300 pounds worth of towing capacity. The Expedition EL falls short with only 6,000 pounds worth of towing capacity.
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
The Ford Expedition and the Chevy Suburban might appear evenly matched here. They both offer 36,000-miles/3-years worth of bumper to bumper coverage, and 60,000-miles/5-years worth of both drivetrain coverage and roadside assistance. The Chevy comes with two years of included standard maintenance service—the Ford doesn’t give you any included maintenance features
Trims and Options
The Suburban comes standard with the latest OnStar telematics system with emergency collision notification, stolen vehicle notification, enhanced roadside assistance remote door unlocking, and more. The OnStar system now comes standard with the OnStar 4G LTE wireless connectivity with in-car WiFi hotspot. None of those features are standard on the Ford Expedition.
Space and Dimensions
The Chevy Suburban offers more headroom both front and rear, when compared to even the largest configuration of the Ford Expedition.
