2016 Ford Expedition

The 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe and the 2016 Ford Expedition have been battling it out in the full-size SUV segment since they hit the market. These are two truck-based, hard-working vehicles that can provide your family with ample cargo and passenger space, all-weather and all-terrain capability, and plenty of towing capacity. Take a look at how they compare to see for yourself which one is the better option for you.

Powertrains and Performance

When you’re shopping for a full-size SUV, you probably want serious muscle, tons of towing capacity, and the best fuel economy possible. The 2016 Ford Expedition gets a turbocharged 3.5L V6 that makes 365 hp and is rated 16 mpg city and 22 mpg highway based on EPA estimates with rear-wheel drive. Meanwhile, the 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe comes with 5.3L V8 good for 355 hp and rated at an admirable 16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway with rear wheel drive—better all-around fuel economy than the Expedition. The Tahoe can also run on either regular unleaded or E85, which the Expedition can’t do. And while Expedition makes marginally more power than the Tahoe, the latter is the winner when it comes to fuel economy and versatility.

Features and Options

Both of these models offer upscale standard equipment such as Bluetooth connectivity, parking assistance features, satellite radio, power adjustable front seats, and of course, seating for up to eight people. But the 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe offers a few standard features that are simply missing from the base 2016 Ford Expedition. Those include a navigation system and HD radio. You also get the latest OnStar system, which comes with features like stolen vehicle assistance, automatic emergency services, and enhanced roadside assistance; the Ford SYNC system doesn’t provide any of that. The OnStar system also now comes with 4G LTE wireless data and in-car WiFi hotspot standard, another perk missing from Ford’s options.
